SERDP
The Strategic Environmental Research & Development Program (SERDP) is the Department of Defenses (DoD) environmental science and technology program, planned and executed in partnership with the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, with participation by numerous other federal and non-federal organizations. To address the highest priority issues confronting the Services, SERDP focuses on cross-service requirements and pursues high-risk/high-payoff solutions to the Department's most intractable environmental problems.  The development and application of innovative environmental technologies support the long-term sustainability of DoD's training and testing ranges as well as significantly reduce current and future environmental liabilities.

SERDPs charter permits investment across the broad spectrum of research and development, from basic research through applied research to exploratory development.  In more general terms, SERDP invests in environmental technologies from basic research through bench-scale proof of principle. The Program focuses on four focus areas:  Environmental Restoration, Munitions Management, Sustainable Infrastructure, and Weapons Systems and Platforms.

ESTCP
The Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP) is the Department of Defenses (DoD) environmental technology demonstration and validation program. ESTCP's goal is to identify, demonstrate, and transfer technologies that address DoD's highest priority environmental requirements. The Program promotes innovative, cost-effective environmental technologies through demonstrations at DoD facilities and sites.  These technologies provide a return on investment through improved efficiency, reduced liability, and direct cost savings.  The current cost and impact on DoD operations of environmental compliance is significant.  Innovative technologies are reducing both the cost of environmental remediation and compliance and the impact of DoDs operations on the environment, while enhancing military readiness.

ESTCP selects lab-proven technologies with broad DoD application for rigorous field trials.  These demonstrations document the cost, performance, and market potential of the technology.  ESTCP technology demonstrations address DoD environmental needs in the Environmental Restoration, Munitions Management, Sustainable Infrastructure, and Weapons Systems and Platforms focus areas.
