Background Investigation

All SRC offers of employment are contingent upon the following:

  1. You must successfully complete a drug screening, i.e., the results of the screening must demonstrate no presence of illegal drugs.
  2. You must successfully pass a background investigation, i.e., the investigation must reveal no unfavorable information1.

SRC uses independent firms for the drug screening and to obtain investigative consumer reports and/or consumer reports that may include information about your credit standing, credit capacity, character, general reputation, personal characteristics, or mode of living.  You reserve the right to refuse to participate in the drug screening and/or background investigations. However, failure to participate will result in the Corporation automatically rescinding the offer for employment.

Furthermore, some SRC offers of employment have additional requirements that include being the subject of a favorable background investigation conducted by the U.S. Government. These investigations are conducted because of the highly sensitive and/or classified work with which SRC is involved.

The areas of an individual’s background that will be reviewed by the U.S. Government during an investigation will primarily be, but not limited to, the following:

  • National Security-related areas, such as improper handling of classified material, acts of espionage, secret contracts with foreign governments, or involvement in subversive or terrorist activities
  • Search into any activities (past or present) that could conceivably compromise your loyalty to the U.S.
  • Matters regarding personal habits and lifestyle
  • Citizenship of you and your relatives and an evaluation of the status of family members and close friends living in a foreign country or have foreign citizenship but living in the U.S.
  • Use of illegal drugs and/or abuse of prescription drugs or alcohol
  • An attempt to conceal any police or conviction records and/or any involvement in illegal activities
  • A determination of financial responsibility and credit habit
  • Activities susceptible to blackmail
  • Treatment of mental, emotional, or nervous disorders

If the U.S. Government investigation reveals a serious problem concerning any of the areas above or some other matter, the U.S. Government may declare you to be ineligible for access to sensitive and/or classified information. If you feel you would have a problem successfully completing such an investigation, you may want to reconsider applying for a position that requires a background investigation of this depth.

1. "Unfavorable information" (as that term is used herein), constitutes the following:

  • The applicant tests positive for illegal drugs on his/her drug screening
  • The applicant provided inaccurate/misleading information on his/her application documentation
  • It is discovered that the applicant has been convicted for an offense(s) where there is a direct relationship between the offense(s) and the specific job offered, or the granting of the employment, in light of such offense(s), would involve, in the reasonable opinion of the Corporation, an unreasonable risk to property, safety, or welfare of specific individuals or the general public

In addition to the reasons outlined above, unfavorable results from the credit check may or may not cause the offer of employment to be rescinded. This decision will be made based on factors, not limited to, but including:

  • Position requirements
  • Bankruptcy
  • Unpaid accounts
  • History of unpaid accounts
