Syracuse Research Corporation Awarded Three TACNY Awards

SYRACUSE, NY, May 16, 2006 – Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC) has recently been awarded three technology awards from the Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY): Technology Company of the Year; Project of the Year, Counter RCIED; and Young Technologist of the Year, Benjamin Greenblatt. TACNY’s awards recognize and celebrate the achievements of Central New York (CNY) individuals, educators, companies and projects, highlighting CNY as a rewarding place to learn and work.

The Technology Company of the Year is awarded to a CNY technology organization that has made outstanding contributions to new and/or innovative products, processing technologies, or productivity leading to enhanced business. SRC’s employment has been steadily expanding from 224 employees to 750, a 220% growth, in the past 10 years. The increased business is the result of satisfied customers that rely on our expertise and continue to pose new challenges that our talented staff resolve. Advanced research and development is utilized to enhance products through technological innovations. We have programs that have continued to evolve for many years including a database for the Intelligence Community, assessment reports for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and radar development for the Department of Defense (DoD).

Project of the Year is awarded to a current technological project, invention, or process designed, invented, or constructed in CNY. SRC takes home this honor for its efforts against RCIED’s, better known as roadside bombs. RCIED’s are the number one killer used by enemy insurgents in Iraq today. There is a need for field-programmable electronic countermeasures system designed to provide force protection against RCIED detonation ambushes, and the SRC’s technology is addressing that need. SRC has hired dozens of new personnel and has also leased space to allow increased production for this and other contracts.

TACNY’s Young Technologist of the Year is Benjamin Greenblatt. This award is presented to a Central New Yorker, less than 35 years old, who has made recent outstanding contributions to advances and improvements in a technological field not limited to engineering. With only five years experience, Mr. Greenblatt has quickly become one of SRC’s top digital design engineers. He is not only responsible for the design, implementation, integration, and testing of state-of-the-art digital subsystems, but also for directing other young engineers as well.
