The program is supported by the Manufacturers' Association of Central New York, the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, and the Metropolitan Development Association.
About Success By 6
Success By 6 originated in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1989 from a partnership between Honeywell Industries and United Way of Minneapolis. Initially, they were concerned about the quality of the local labor pool and realized that creating employable adults actually begins by investing in children during their early, most inquisitive years. In 1991, Bill Donlon (then President and CEO of Niagara Mohawk) and Mary Ann Shaw (then associate to the Chancellor of Syracuse University) sought to improve the lives of children in our community, who suffered a high infant mortality rate and a low immunization rate. To help combat these issues, Donlon and Shaw began a local Success By 6 in Syracuse, NY. For more information go to www.unitedway-cny.org.

LCMR Named One of U.S. ARMY's Top Ten Greatest Inventions of 2004
Syracuse, NY, June 28, 2005 - Syracuse
Research Corporation's Lightweight Counter Mortar Radar was named
one of the Army's "Top Ten Greatest Inventions" of the
year. The LCMR was developed for the U.S. Army-CECOM, specifically
the CERDEC Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate, at
the Fort Monmouth, New Jersey Army base.
The award distinguishes best technological solutions
for soldiers, and how these new technologies increase convenience
and competence for the Army, on their inventiveness, and on the
potential benefit outside the Army. Chosen for their impact on
today's Army capabilities, the winners were selected by numerous
divisions of the Army including active-duty and training.
Cited as a scientific breakthrough, the LCMR
was designed to automatically locate mortar weapons spanning 360
degrees and to be sufficiently lightweight to support insertion
by Airborne troops. LCMR is specified to detect and track mortar
rounds that area out of range for most mortar weapons and locate
the firing weapon with a target location error sufficient to neutralize
the shooter with either combat air support or counterfire.
Both Congressman James T. Walsh and Senator
Hillary Rodham Clinton are strong supporters of the LCMR program.
"I have witnessed firsthand how SRC's Lightweight Counter
Mortar Radar is filling a critical need in the protection of our
ground based troops in hostile territories abroad," said
Rep. Jim Walsh (NY-25). "This recognition by the United States
Army is well deserved and a tremendous vote of confidence by the
Pentagon in the high technology research and development abilities
of the men and women of Syracuse Research. Congratulations all."

Syracuse, NY, June 15, 2005 - Syracuse Research Corporation has been awarded a $7M Option on a three-year research and development contract to design, build, integrate and test a unique airborne radar system for the U.S. Army’s Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC). The total contract (including all options) has a potential value of $35M.

The objective of SRC's work on the FORESTER Program is to design, fabricate, integrate, and test a FORESTER system that can detect and track moving targets under dense foliage.
The baseline phase effort (awarded in 2004) was to design and fabricate the FORESTER system and tower-test it. This month, Option One, worth $7M, was awarded. Option One is an 18-month effort to fabricate a second FORESTER system, then integrate and test the FORESTER system on a Black Hawk helicopter. There are two remaining options for which funding has not yet been received: Option Two, to integrate and test the FORESTER system on an A160 Hummingbird helicopter unmanned aerial vehicle, and Option 3, to produce four more FORESTER systems.
