Syracuse Research Corporation Honored with Second Human Resources Donlon Award

Syracuse, NY, November 22, 2006 – For the second year in a row, United Way’s Success By 6 and CNY Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has awarded Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC) with a Donlon Award for their outstanding commitment to create a family-friendly workplace. The Donlon and Excellence Awards are given to companies throughout the region recognizing these organizations as Employers of Choice in Central New York.

President and CEO Bob Roberts said, “SRC is honored to be recognized as a leading employer in CNY. We strive to make our employees feel that work-life balance is not only possible, but encouraged. The secret to our success is great people and we are committed to offering the best benefits and environment for our employees.”

SRC’s strong balance between employees’ personal and work lives is necessary for the success of employees and the company as a whole. Family supportive policies of SRC include: flexible scheduling options, wellness activities, eldercare support groups, an employee discount program which includes reduced-price tickets to local family events and attractions, reduced cost memberships to local health facilities, and a regular section in the company’s quarterly newsletter that addresses topics concerning the work/life balance.

Established in 1998, the Donlon Award was named for William Donlon, former CEO of Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation and first Chairman of the Success By 6 Policy Council. The program is supported by the Manufacturers' Association of Central New York, the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, and the Metropolitan Development Association.

About Success By 6
Success By 6 originated in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1989 from a partnership between Honeywell Industries and United Way of Minneapolis. Initially, they were concerned about the quality of the local labor pool and realized that creating employable adults actually begins by investing in children during their early, most inquisitive years. In 1991, Bill Donlon (then President and CEO of Niagara Mohawk) and Mary Ann Shaw (then associate to the Chancellor of Syracuse University) sought to improve the lives of children in our community, who suffered a high infant mortality rate and a low immunization rate. To help combat these issues, Donlon and Shaw began a local Success By 6 in Syracuse, NY. For more information, go to www.unitedway-cny.org.

Syracuse, NY, October 30, 2006 – Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC) is proud to announce that the company has been awarded its sixth James S. Cogswell Award (Cogswell Award) for achievement in security excellence for its Syracuse office. SRC has won a total of eight awards, two of those for its San Antonio, TX office.

The Cogswell Award is the most prestigious security award given to industry by the U.S. Defense Security Service (DSS). This year, only 29 facilities were selected to receive the award out of more than 11,000 eligible government contractors, including almost 200 in Upstate New York. SRC was previously awarded the Cogswell in 1975, 1978, 1985, 1995 (two awards, one for San Antonio), 1998, and 2002 (San Antonio). We are extremely proud of our employees and believe this illustrates how important we view the information of our customers. It also reflects that we are leaders in security.”

Cogswell was responsible for developing the basic principles of the industrial security program, including the emphasis on partnership between industry and government to accomplish industrial security objectives, and excellence for the benefit of the U.S. warfighter.

Walsh Secures $2.7 Million for Syracuse Research Corporation

Syracuse, NY, October 20, 2006 – U.S. Rep. James Walsh announced this week that a total of $2.7 million from the Fiscal Year 2007 Department of Defense Appropriations bill has been approved for Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC). The bill will provide $1.7 million for SRC’s Reasoning and Assessment of Intelligence for Counter-Narcotics and Anti-Terrorism (RAINCOAT) program, and $1 million for Lightweight Counter-Mortar Radar Base Protection (LCMR-BP) systems.

"Syracuse Research Corporation is an established and proven defense technology firm," said U.S. Congressman James T. Walsh. "This is another fine example of a Central New York-based company collaborating with the federal government to provide quality systems to the men and women of our armed services."

“We are pleased that Congressman Walsh has again shown his dedication to Central New York business with his support of our RAINCOAT and LCMR Systems,” said Bob Roberts, President and CEO of SRC. “In 2000, Congressman Walsh supported an innovative system called the LCMR and with his help throughout the years, LCMR has been making a difference and saving lives. In addition, it helped to grow our company and the local economy as a result. We hope to continue working with the congressman, developing new ideas that increase business such as this funding for RAINCOAT and LCMR.”

RAINCOAT provides the U.S. Air Force with an operator-focused decision support tool. RAINCOAT is a software application that will assist in the detection, identification, and monitoring of drug, insurgent, and terrorist activities. It integrates information from multiple intelligence sources and compresses the intelligence reporting timeline for intelligence operators. This capability directly supports intelligence operators for their ongoing anti-terrorism and counter-drug missions in the Middle East and South America.

LCMR operates in the battlefield today, protecting warfighters from mortars and rockets. LCMRs and/or other sensors in the LCMR-BP System can be networked together to increase the safety of soldiers, as doing so will greatly enhance the system’s accuracy in estimating a mortar’s launch point location. The LCMR-BP will provide scalable, low-cost/high-reliability forward operating base protection that can handle a variety of threat situations with great reliability to warn personnel of an incoming threat.

SRC Countermeasure Protection System Named One of U.S. Army’s Top Ten Greatest Inventions of 2005

Syracuse, NY, August 25, 2006 - Syracuse Research Corporation’s (SRC) Countermeasure Protection System (CMPS) was named one of the U.S. Army’s “Top Ten Greatest Inventions of 2005.” CMPS was developed for the U.S. Army to protect against Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIED), better known as roadside bombs. RCIEDs are the number one killer used by enemy insurgents in Iraq today. This was the second year in a row that a SRC product was honored. SRC’s Lightweight Counter-Mortar Radar was named one of the U.S. Army‘s “Top Ten Greatest Inventions of 2004.”

Both U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton and U.S. Congressman James T. Walsh are strong supporters of the CMPS program, as well as SRC’s follow-on program to design, produce, field, and support the next-generation system against RCIEDs. To accommodate production schedules for these important U.S. Army programs, SRC has hired dozens of new personnel and has leased additional manufacturing space.

“SRC is a company in Central New York that is making an important impact," Senator Clinton said. “Their continued ingenuity is a testament to the high quality people that SRC employs. They are growing rapidly and working to make a tremendous difference for those in the field.”

Congressman Walsh added, “We fully support not only this program of national significance, but others as well. We are encouraged by the manufacturing jobs that these efforts bring to Central New York.”

The award distinguishes best technological solutions for soldiers, and how these new technologies increase convenience and competence for the U.S. Army. Chosen for their inventiveness, impact on today’s Army capabilities, and potential benefits outside the Army, the nominated products were evaluated by numerous divisions of the Army, including active-duty and training troops deployed worldwide.

“We are honored to receive this award because they are essentially the ‘Soldier’s Choice Awards,’” said Bob Roberts, President and Chief Executive Officer of SRC. “CMPS is already protecting soldiers’ lives, which compels us to continue to develop and produce quality products that are valuable in the field and to fighting the global war on terror.”

Syracuse Research Corporation Receives $138M Contract

SYRACUSE, NY, February 28, 2006 – The U.S. Army has awarded a $138 million delivery order to Syracuse Research Corporation (SRC) to produce, field and support a next-generation capability against Remote Control Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIED) known as Counter RCIED Electronic Warfare Increment Two (CREW-2).

CREW-2 will provide an affordable capability against a broad spectrum of RCIED threats with a design that is sufficiently flexible to allow for future capability growth. The contract for additional systems is intended to meet an urgent operational need for a field-programmable electronic countermeasures system designed to provide force protection against RCIED detonation ambushes.

RCIEDs, better known as roadside bombs, are the number one killer used by enemy insurgents in Iraq today. Both U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton and U.S. Congressman James T. Walsh are strong supporters of this program and have assisted to move this program forward. SRC has hired dozens of new personnel and has also leased space to allow increased production for this and other contracts.

"Syracuse Research Corporation is a Central New York company that is making an important impact on many levels," Senator Clinton said. “Their ingenuity to solve this problem is a testament to the high quality people that SRC employs. They are growing rapidly and helping to expand the local economy by offering unique technical employment opportunities.” Congressman Walsh added, “We fully support not only this and other programs of national significance, but are encouraged by the manufacturing jobs that these efforts bring to the area.”

The CREW-2 contract is a four-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity-type contract arrangement, including Firm-Fixed Price for production systems plus Time & Materials for follow-on training, field support, vehicle installation, maintenance, and system upgrades. This is the third delivery order placed against the $550M contract ceiling, for a total of $275M so far.

CREW-2 is sponsored by the Joint IED Defeat Organization which coordinates all counter IED efforts within the Department of Defense, while concurrently engaging other outside sources of potential solutions, to defeat current and future IED threats that continue to endanger Joint and Coalition forces.
