SRC's
Communications Business Area has a long history of supporting customers
in a broad range of communications programs.
The programs fall into three main categories:
-
Large
integrated communications & C2 systems
-
Advanced
communications technology with emphasis on
SATCOM & antenna systems
-
Specialty
communications, including GPS
Large Integrated
Communications & C2 Systems
SRC provides comprehensive support to customers in the system and user
requirements definition; technology specification and evaluation;
strawman system design and cost estimation; and in some cases, initial
deployment. These large systems generally include complex wireline and
wireless segments spanning a wide range of technologies and
disciplines. Effective support to the customer is only achieved by
providing a comprehensive systems engineering view. SRC engineers have
attacked the engineering challenges with rigorous and innovative
approaches which provide fresh solutions and insight. Representative programs and
customers include: C2 support to the Republic of
Georgia Border Guard for the USCS; the Customs Secure Data Network (CSDN)
for the USCS; the USCS Commissioner's Situation Room; and the Statewide
Wireless Network (SWN) program for New York State.
Advanced
Communications Technology
SRC supports customers in the evaluation of advanced communications
technology via the detailed analysis and simulation of proposed systems
and technologies and the test and evaluation of prototype systems.
SRC's emphasis has been in the areas of satellite and land mobile radio
communications and antenna systems. In the satellite communications
arena, SRC supported the USAF in the evaluation of enabling technologies
for future satellite systems, and generated future satellite studies for
the NYS and federal governments. SRC's antenna expertise is broad, with
a particularly long and successful history in the analysis, simulation,
design, implementation and test of adaptive antenna systems for a
variety of platforms and systems.
Specialty Communications
SRC’s support to customers in the Specialty Communications area spans a
wide range of technology products and services. SRC is currently
developing a high data rate FPGA-based software defined radio. SRC has a
long history in the development and demonstration of radar-responsive
tags for a variety of applications. Related to the development of LPD/LPI
communications, SRC has developed signal analysis algorithms and
techniques for the evaluation of candidate waveforms and techniques.
SRC’s extensive system simulation and propagation modeling packages
support the design and evaluation of large and small communications
systems. For the GPS program, SRC has supported the analysis and test of
the L-band and UHF antenna subsystems for the IIR, IIF and Modernized
satellite programs. |
