Overview
The EWIRDB (Electronic Warfare Integrated Reprogramming
Database) is recognized as the definitive source of parametric data for radars and other
non-communications emitters. The EWIRDB is used by many government organizations and
defense contractors not only for EW reprogramming, but also for simulation and modeling,
research and development, testing, and EW studies and analysis.
SRC is widely recognized as the leading expert on the EWIRDB, having
helped the government develop the database in the 1970's, and provided continuous database
support through the present. For well over a decade, SRC engineers have taught hundreds of
analysts to successfully use the EWIRDB and interpret its data.
When you complete this course, you'll be able to easily locate and understand the
EWIRDB parameters needed to accomplish your unique EWIRDB mission.
(You will need a
U.S. Secret clearance to attend any course segment.)
Course Benefits
The EWIRDB is a very
large, comprehensive database, and users often need help getting started. This course
gives you that help, and gets you on your way to being the EWIRDB expert at
your organization. This course includes
an introduction to the EWIRDB tree, data formats and structures, available software, and
how to read and interpret suffix tables.
This course brings together producers and users of the EWIRDB in an informal classroom
setting conducive to an enlightening exchange of ideas. In addition to learning about the
EWIRDB, you'll also have the opportunity to interact with other EWIRDB users, and benefit
from their experiences.
Course Segments
Using the EWIRDB (Days 1 & 2)
An in-depth examination of the EWIRDB itself.
Advanced EWIRDB Applications (Day 3)
Some of the most challenging aspects of entering and extracting data from the
EWIRDB.
Day 3 Outline: Advanced EWIRDB Applications
- Advanced reprogramming exercises
- EWIRDB examples
- Suffix Tables
- Complex emitters and their suffix tables
- EWIRDB problems and their solutions
- Software tools
What Will Be Covered in this Segment?
- Different types of radars, especially modern, complex
systems
- Different techniques for reading and entering these emitters in the EWIRDB
- Working with Suffix Tables for complex emitters
- Techniques for dealing with data gaps, errors,
inconsistencies and conflicting sources
- Software tools useful for extracting data from the EWIRDB
Who Should Come?
Analysts and engineers who work extensively with the data in the EWIRDB, and need
additional instruction beyond that offered in the basic "Using the EWIRDB"
segment.
Instructors
Steve Duning, Mike Garwood, Ron Murdock, Ed Saleh.
Prerequisites
A final U.S. Secret clearance and need-to-know are
required for attendance. Familiarity with basic EW terminology is helpful but not
required. The "Introduction to Radar &
EWIRDB Parameters" course is suggested for
people new to Electronic Warfare. Interested parties should contact the course coordinator
to inquire about the availability
of other EWIRDB-related courses.
Security Arrangements
"Using the EWIRDB" is presented at the U.S. Secret
level. Clearance and need-to-know forms should be sent to
Syracuse Research Corporation no later than 10 working days before the course
convenes. This course is sponsored for security purposes by the Defense Intelligence
Agency. Sponsorship approval date is September 5, 1989.
